Strange Things....After a long day!!!

Okay, so today has been a long day and normally I'm getting home and getting ready for the tomorrow but tonight I stop to look for all things my immunization records. Jeeves, at 40 I would never think I would need them. But anyway, while looking for them I came upon Grandpa's obituary.

Of course, I cried like a baby because we buried Grandpa on October 13, 2001 (my b'day). Writing that last post about the angel oak tree made me think about him so much today. So I was already bummed from writing about that. I can honestly say that Grandpa has remained a very vivid part of my life for a very long time after his passing. He seems to always know when to appear or make me aware of something. It's something special that I feel like we share.

So after crying my eyes out...I open the obituary and this is what it says:

Our Daddy ("Rocky")

He was loved by many. He will be cherished forever. He has brought memories to us all. Many will be remembered forever, some will be forgotten. He was like branches from a tree that spread so many. Never will he be forgotten and forever he will be remembered.

From All of Your Children.

If that Angel Oak Tree doesn't symbolize "Rocky" I don't know what does.

I love you Paw Poo!!

Angel Oak Tree History

Okay, so my mom asked me about the Angel Oak Tree in the picture I used: So I have added some more pictures but a little history of why I choose the tree:

The angel oak tree trunk symbolizes great strength because the tree is so huge and heavy that it would have to be strong to hold it all together. So the trunk for me represents Alcorn & Bertha Green. The limbs are vibrant, strong and full of life, this to me represent their 10 kids.

The one thing about this tree is that it's a live oak tree, so it's still growing. That symbolizes our family. The Green Family comes from a long line of strong men and women. Each member had a unique gift of love. Growing up I can still remember the Oak that was behind where my mom lives today. We loved playing in this tree. The funny part is that when my mom and her siblings where younger, they played in that exact same tree. History sometimes has a way of repeating itself and that's what I thought about when I saw this tree for the first time. It symbolizes the Green Family strength and the ability to keep growing but keep of us remain close together. Even though the limbs on this tree is extremely heavy; they didn't break they literally started growing on the ground and underground and coming back up. This our family. Even when we are down we can find a way to get back up and family is the key to that growth. I love my family and this Angel Oak Tree is so symbolic of everything I was taught as a kid and learned as a kid.

So here is a little background on that tree:

The Angel Oak is thought to be one of the oldest living things east of the Mississippi River. Acorns from the Angel Oak have grown to produce authentic direct-offspring trees. Live oaks generally grow out and not up, but the Angel Oak has had plenty of time to do both, standing 65 feet high and with a canopy providing 17,000 square feet of shade. Its limbs, the size of tree trunks themselves, are so large and heavy that some of them rest on the ground (some even drop underground for a few feet and then come back up), a feature common to only the very oldest live oaks. It has survived countless hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and human interference. This tree is located in Charleston, South Carolina.

If you wish to purchase it on your own, please call me and let me know and I will release it and let you reserve the shack. It’s held to ensure we have enough room for everyone.

As always I will book all rooms; if you like. You can send me your money or Kaye and I will hold it with my credit card and pay on the day of arrival. Receipts will be provided after payment for your records.

Deadline for all rooms that I’m booking will be June 1st, 2012.

You can book it yourself by calling the Shack up Inn @ 662.624.8329. Last year, this made for an easy process since I do try to arrive prior to everyone else. However; you can book it yourself and if so, visit www.shackupinn.com to see pictures and details about your shack.

Other things to consider since we are “Pro’s” at this are the following:

1. Carpool its help with gas and makes for a better trip.

2. Remember we all want EVERYONE enjoy Ground Zero to go out; so if you haven’t in the past, please try to make it this year. We have a blast.

3. Bring a dish. It doesn’t matter what; just something. Even if it’s snacks. As always I will definitely do some dips for the Friday night “Robert Clay Mixer”, (I can’t believe it has a name) but let’s kick this night off with Cards and Dominos. So be ready!!!

4. The Robert Clay Bed and Breakfast yep, we still plan to do this plus the added cook to order omelets!! Ha!! Ha!! Yep!! It’s on!!

5. Bring Coffee Supplies if you can. This was a big item when we got up on Saturday Morning. Just to be prepared, let just bring some extra coffee supplies.

6. Every unit has microwaves and we can warm up and have a variety of items. If you don’t cook, bring chips or buy cookies…Something for everyone to enjoy. Not required – But it would be nice!!!

7. Airbeds are great; if you have one, bring IT!!! You may not need it but someone else may. Please remember that not all rooms will have enough beds, however the airbeds will make up for the lack of sleeping spaces.

8. Water is a good thing to pick up and of course your “specialty drinks”.
